- Founded in 1997 and registered as a non-profit organisation in 2004
- Board of directors entirely composed of women mayors and councillors; 3 posts reserved for former women municipal politicians.

- Proposed strategies concerning a multitude of subjects relating to politics, administration, and the challenges of being a woman politician.
- Women’s network elected municipal officials concentrated within the East Montérégie territory, but also extending outside its territory. We offer organize activities: formation courses, workshops, etc. which allow women, politicians and other women who promote equality, the opportunity to exchange ideas and strategies.

- Support offered to Women who participate or have questions concerning the various city committees.

The REMME holds workshops with:
- The main municipal associations:
- Union des municipalités du Québec (UMQ) (large and middle-size cities).
- Québec’s federation of municipalities (FMQ) (small towns and groups of cities).
- Canadian Federation of municipalities.
Since 2000, the RÉMME holds an annual conference on subjects such as sustainable development, public-private partnerships, gender equality, ethics, local and regional projects including social and economic development and women’s empowerment.
The RÉMME is very proud of its results:
- Many of the RÉMME’s board members are now head of the main municipal associations.
- The RÉMME collaborates with the UMQ and FCM for international networking, example with Sénégal and Bolivia.
- There is a close collaboration between the RÉMME and the regional authorities (CRÉ Montérégie Est).
- Gender Equality is one of six Montérégie Est’s core values.
